Shubha sees her childhood playmate Arun from far off, and becomes mesmerized by his beauty. The two meet and have an instant connection due to their shared passion for flute playing. They fall deeply in love, but differences arise as Shubha is outgoing and does not mind talking to people as long as it isn't about her, which bothers Arun who is shy and private by nature. One day, Arun comes back and finds Shubha dancing in the garden with another man. He is shocked and furious, but she convinces him that she was not cheating on him. They don't speak to each other for days and months. The movie ends when they meet again and Arun tells Shubha that she has brought back everything in his life that had been missing for ten years. Hearing this, Shubha breaks down and swears never to see him again unless he turns into the man he used to be when they first met. Arun agrees. The movie won the 1974 Filmfare award for Best Film - Sharmila Tagore, Best Female Playback Singer (Sharmila Tagore) and Best Film Music (Gulzar).
